How to Avoid Plagiarism: A Comprehensive List of Free Online Tools

With the influx of AI tools taking over the internet right in front of our eyes, it’s important that we are paying attention to a looming effect of it all… the risk of plagiarism. While these tools are dope AF, it’s important to remember that you as a user do NOT own any of the content that is provided to you. In addition, you are at risk of the bots regurgitating information as it gets it, which can produce potential plagiarism down the line.

Who cares???

You should. Plagiarism is a serious offense that can have severe consequences, including legally. Whether you're a student, blogger, or freelance writer, it's essential to ensure that your content is originallllll and free of plagiarism.

The good news? There’s a bunch of free plagiarism checkers online and I’ve done some of the research for you. Let’s get into some of the different plagiarism checkers I’ve found. Hopefully, you find the one that’s the right fit for you.

Why Finding the Right Plagiarism Checker is Important

When it comes to plagiarism checkers, not all of them are created equal. Some may be more accurate than others, while some may have limitations in terms of the length or format of the content they can check. Additionally, some plagiarism checkers may be more user-friendly, while others may offer advanced features that are better suited for academic professionals. You  need to determine the qualities you need and how user-friendly you need it to be.

Some Free Plagiarism Checkers to Consider

Here are eight free plagiarism checkers to consider.

Note: There may be limitations to free versions as some of them do offer a premium version.

  1. Grammarly: Easy to use and offers a comprehensive check for plagiarism within the native website itself so you don’t have to go to another website.

  2. DupliChecker: Ideal for students and bloggers who need a quick check for plagiarism.

  3. CopyLeaks: Their claim to fame is they can “identify potential plagiarism and paraphrasing across nearly every language, detect AI-generated content, verify ownership, and empower error-free writing.” And just know, I tested it and it WORKS, y’all. (A computer checking a computer… the irony is not lost on me.)

  4. Quetext: Ideal for professionals who need a thorough check for plagiarism. You can do up to 500 words at a time for free.

  5. SmallSEOTools: Offers a wide variety of text analysis tools aside from the free plagiarism checker. There are a bunch of paid versions available that are tailored to various needs.

  6. Scribbr: You can detect plagiarism as well as the top 5 sources where you have matches for free. It has a large database because it’s generated by the founders of Turnitin and supports up to 20 languages.

  7. Plagiarism Detector: You can check up to 1,000 words for FREE at a time. I love the scale of unique versus not-so-unique content. In their free version, you can also “make it unique” and utilize their paraphraser tool. A win is a win.

  8. Check Plagiarism: It’s basic in its design but it works!

What are my top 3?

  1. Copyleaks: It’s user-friendly enough for me + the bonus checkers it has

  2. Que Text: It shows you exactly where the risk is

  3. Grammarly: Because I already am on that website every weekday when I’m writing BUT I wouldn’t rely on it as heavily if I was in school or anything.

I encourage you to find the right one for you and remember, you need to keep producing ORIGINAL content. Let me know if this was helpful!
