Dear 2020, I don’t hate you.

He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.
— Isaiah 40:29

Let’s be clear. Very clear.

This year has broken me and tore me up many times since the second day of this year. I thought that 2016 was bad and along came Miss 2020. I could give you all a laundry list of the stories I have told and kept silent but that means that the enemy would have won, and I simply cannot allow that to happen.

As many of you know, New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday. If I ever did get married, it would be on New Year’s Eve. If my personality was a holiday, it would be New Year’s Eve. Get the point? Great. So as I have spent the last few days cleaning like a crazy woman because, #BlackTraditions, I was extremely appreciative that I finished last night so that I could truly focus and reflect today. Instead of thinking about all that didn’t happen, went wrong, or what I lost, I’ve been trying to think about some of my favorite highlights.

Some of those highlights include:

  1. I had one of my top 5 trips of life when I went to Trinidad on a whim.

  2. I learned that I have the best village of supporters around me.

  3. I learned my value.

  4. I cut the crap out that was no longer serving me.

  5. I started my business!

I could add more (and I did in my journal) but I wanted to keep it concise for you all. I would urge each of you to make a short gratitude list for the good that came to life for you this year. Let’s channel the energy we are feeling into positive vibes that will help carry us into 2021.

As for me, since 21 is one of my favorite numbers, I’m sending a secret prayer that the blessings at the end of this rainbow meet me in the upcoming year. I’ve gained more strength than I thought was even possible and I hope to make the woman I aspire to be proud.

See yall next year!

Hugs and love,

CJ
