6 Tips for Protecting Your Information Online

If I may cut to the chase…

It’s all fun and games being online until your ish gets hacked.

I’ve been there and it SUCKS. My personal Instagram page was gone from the ‘gram for 3 months and I only had like 2K followers. Let’s just say… it was a long three months! Lol

Now admittedly, I was totally guilty of using the same password I had been using for years for everything and it cost me coins and my account. Lesson learned, kids.

December is actually National Identity Theft Prevention and Awareness Month so here’s a gentle reminder from me to you.

  1. Change your passwords.

Friends, passwords should be like seasons and CHANGE. If you cannot remember the last time you've changed your password, it's been too long.

2. Use different passwords.

In addition to updating your passwords, you need to use different passwords. Don't get hacked -everywhere- because you only wanted to use one password.

3. Ensure the passwords are strong.

I often use "strong password generator" websites that create passwords with at least 10 characters, but more often 16. You can choose to add symbols, numbers, etc.

4. Add two-factor authentication.

Is it annoying? Yep. Does it help provide peace of mind? Absolutely. I have YET to be hacked again after adding two-factor. There are also various apps you can download for mobile that provide backup codes.

5. Keep a list in a safe space.

I have two places where I keep what I need. LastPass and a spreadsheet on AirTable. They are separated by categories for me, my clients, and business items. GAMECHANGER!!!

6. Watch the spam!

We know the holiday season is a beautiful time but it’s also scammer season, so be careful and protect yourself! 🤍
